Boarding Assistant Job Description
We are currently looking for an individual for a full time boarding position. Position includes, 35+ hours a week with health insurance, pet benefits and PTO, and retirement plan.
Previous experience in animal health or boarding facilities is required.
Boarding Assistants will work varying hours to include, weekdays, weeknights, and alternating weekend and holidays. Weekend and holiday hours will be shared equally whenever possible. Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and Boarding Manager will work along with Boarding Assistants throughout the year to ensure the boarding needs are fully met.
Veterinary boarding assistants are responsible for the day-to-day care of patients and boarders. This includes feeding, watering, medicating, cleaning, walking, bathing, and monitoring the well being of dogs, cats and, occasionally, other companion animals. Boarding assistants must have sufficient physical strength, mobility, and stamina to lift and/or move heavy pets and objects, the dexterity and confidence to administer medications, and the ability to monitor pets for signs of distress or disease. It is essential that they have the ability and willingness to learn and the desire to provide gentle, compassionate care for boarded and hospitalized pets. Cleaning and sanitizing all vacated kennels using the hospital protocol.
Boarding assistants also have receptionist responsibilities on the weekend during open hours. In addition, boarding assistants will be expected to carry out receptionist responsibilities during the weekday on a case-by-case basis. Receptionists are the customer-relations experts in a veterinary practice. They are the clients' first impression of the practice, on the phone or in person. Receptionists must possess strong organizational skills, excellent telephone and in-person communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Receptionists must have compassion for animals and their owners and understand the stress that patients and clients endure. Weekend receptionists are responsible for: greeting clients, checking in and out boarding patients.
